A beautiful smile: the importance of teeth!

At first, everything seems simple. A smile is a natural sign, a social gesture and a reflection of personality. However, a beautiful smile, intimately linked to dental health, requires a minimum of vigilance and attention.

Today, health, seduction, well-being… are major assets and, in the relationship with others, the smile is the best ambassador. But a beautiful smile can be maintained. Like the entire body, teeth require constant attention and care. A few daily gestures, a healthy lifestyle and regular visits to the dental surgeon are enough to preserve their health and radiance.

The gestures of oral hygiene

Good oral hygiene can completely remove plaque, a whitish deposit made up of food debris and bacteria responsible for cavities, pie and gum problems.

High-performance tools

A good small-headed toothbrush with soft, synthetic bristles with rounded ends. Electric toothbrushes are also practical and effectively remove plaque.

A fluoride toothpaste, essential to strengthen the enamel of the teeth. Specific toothpastes treat certain gum diseases. They must be advised to you by your dental surgeon.

Sticks, dental floss, single-tuft brushes and water-repellent brushes are useful supplements to brushing.

How to brush your teeth well? A method of brushing: in order to remove the dental plaque on all the faces of the teeth, the brushing which must last at least 3 minutes, must also respect some simple movements: always go from the “red to the white”, from the gum to the tooth (it is the EUROS method).

B: Brush up and down separately (upper gum) and from top to bottom (lower gum).

A: Roller or rotating movement to brush teeth and gums.

O: Oblique: Tilt your brush at 45° to the gums.

S: follow a path, go around all your teeth without forgetting the top.

Tooth and Gum Disease

Cavities and gum disease are bacterial diseases, the result of poor oral hygiene.

Even the slightest pain is a warning signal that should lead to a quick consultation with your dental surgeon.

Cavity treatment: an irreversible disease, decay attacks and destroys the tooth. The affected part must then be completely removed and replaced by an amalgam (filling), cement or composite. When the decay is significant, the tooth must be devitalized and, in some cases, extracted. To consolidate a tooth, the dental surgeon may make a crown.

Orthodontics: If the gums are healthy, it is possible to correct badly implanted teeth with orthodontic treatment. This treatment allows you to regain a beautiful smile and a better functioning of your teeth for chewing.

The colour of the teeth: the natural colour of the teeth can be altered by stains caused by tobacco, coffee, tea, etc. Regular tartar removal restores the teeth to their natural colour and reduces gum inflammation.

Bite into life with beautiful teeth

Today’s lifestyles should not make us forget certain simple gestures that are essential both in terms of diet and sports.

Teeth and diet: almost all foods contain sugar or starch derivatives that are just as cariogenic. Every time we eat, we cause acidity, which is harmful to our teeth and can lead to tooth decay. This is why we must avoid snacking and eating too close together, which prevents saliva from restoring a normal level of acidity in the mouth, thus playing its major protective role. It is also recommended to drink water, use fluorinated salt and avoid sweet and acidic drinks as much as possible. Chewing sugar-free chewing gum makes you salivate and helps fight acidity. But it is not a substitute for brushing because it does not remove plaque.

Teeth and sport: Sporting activities require healthy teeth to avoid possible effects on general health. Some violent sports (boxing, rugby, hockey…) are the cause of more or less serious traumas: it is therefore recommended to wear a personal dento-maxillary protection made in a dental surgery. In all cases, it is necessary to consult your dental surgeon, as all sports champions do.
